As the economy has tanked there has been lots of talk about the evil credit card companies. How they have been charging people crazy amounts of interest and ridiculous fees when they miss their payment by a day.
It is easy to blame the big companies, they are making millions while many of us are losing our houses. But is it really right to blame them? No one made you sign that form to get yet another credit card. Sure they need to make it a bit more difficult to get access to money but how can it be their fault that you bought shoes?
No one ever likes to talk about personal responsibility, but that is the truth of the matter. We are living in a "I want" society and when it all blew up in our faces we need someone to blame. The person who is partly to blame is looking at you from the mirror every morning but that is the last person any of us want to blame.
So what can be done, if you are in trouble already with your credit cards then start attacking the problem from all angles.Don't put your head in the sand and hope they will miss you, they won't. Contact the company and see if they can give you a break on the bill. Start selling things off on ebay or at yard sales, get a second job. Do anything you can to increase your income.
If you are not in money problems then pat yourself on the back, but don't get too cocky. Do all you can to reduce your credit bill and to increase your cash reserve. While we all hope nothing bad happens to us, there is no way of knowing for sure so it is good to be prepared for the worst while we hope for the best.
Remember credit cards are not evil, you are in charge of your own spending habits. If you choose to go and buy more clothes than you can afford don't moan when the company expect you to pay for them. - 29904
